The Battle of Waterloo, its re-enactment, and some images of it
As mentioned in my previous post I went to a re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo on the weekend. Here are some of the other images. Rather bizarrely (and annoyingly) the aesthetic and the idea that I had for some of the project run closely parallel to the work of another photographer who has only just been unearthed to me. Not ideal at all. I need to go back to the drawing board and re-arrange my thoughts perhaps…
(yep I realise that there is some dust on my sensor too – haven’t had a chance to cleanse the images yet!)

Great shots particularly love the 2nd shot Max…..like a painting from the ‘romantic’ era.
I think Bastida’s images are landscape shots……..ie its about the landscape with this event that happens in it………maybe you could avoid that and focus on the people maybe or just focus closer to the event………just an idea?

These are awesome Max. The sky, so Turner-esque and Constable-esque give it a sheen of painterly past therefore slight photo-unreality. The first three are very strong as they have this quality, the other two confront the absurdity of re-enacting. I guess you have to decided which way you want to interpret the series. Sorry to spoil your enthusiasm with the link to the Spanish photographer a bit. But actually, this can make you find something else in the re-enacting the way you edit it…just you suggested. My sensor tends to get the spots too…such a pain.

Thanks for commenting on these ones guys – to be honest I like the first 3 the most exactly because they have the more romantic feel to them, which is what I wanted to do to show how epic these re-creations of history are…I think perhaps if I move further into conveying the action in this way (rather than the sprawling still life landscapes that Bastida uses) then I can differentiate my visual approach….we’ll see !
It’s important to know what other people are doing in the ball park anyway, you’ve gotta find out sometime đŸ˜‰

Great stuff Max. I love the 1st and 3rd images best. Taken on its own, out of context, it could seem like a bizarre drunken incident. I like the relative anonymity of the field as well. Could be just about anywhere.

@Dan – yeah that wide open field was so good. It made a nice background…
